About the Role

DESIRED CONTRACT TERM: 26 Weeks ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP END DATE: Initial term approved to the Province of Ontario’s current fiscal year end, March 31, 2025. Additional weeks is pending the approval of Ottawa Festivals’ fiscal year (2025-2026) JCP program agreement.


WORK SCHEDULE: 4 business days / 32 hours per week WORK LOCATION: Hybrid: Own home and office


Job Summary: The Graphic Design Assistant will assist in the preparation of creative materials for print and web.


Reporting: The Graphic Design Assistant reports to the Artistic Producer, the Media Marketing Manager, and the Festival Manager.

As the direct supervisor, the media marketing manager ensures creative is approved and deadlines are met. All graphics are approved by senior managers before being implemented.


Job Responsibilities:

● Output designs and deliverables as needed.

● Assist in the creation of branded designs, including digital promotional banners, posters, and display ads for events, announcements, etc.

● Assist in the design of branded displays and socials.

● Image retouching and manipulation using Photoshop.

● Is currently aware of the latest trends and eager to learn and develop best practices as digital marketing continues to evolve.

● All other duties as assigned.


Skills and qualifications required:

● Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and InDesign is mandatory.

● Must have training or previous experience in graphic design or fine arts.

● Must be able to meet deadlines and perform under pressure.


Additional Qualifications Required:

Candidate eligibility for JCP is determined according to the following criteria:

1. An unemployed job seeker or those employed less than 20 hours per week.

2. A resident living in Ontario who is legally authorized to work in Canada.

3. Meet at least 1 of the following criteria:

a. Has an established Employment Insurance (EI) benefit period.

b. Previously established an EI benefit period that has ended within the previous 60 months.

c. Paid employee EI premiums (e.g. Box 18 on the T4) in at least 3 of the last 10 years while earnings have been at least $2000 in each of those years.

d. Received the Employment Insurance Emergency Response benefit (CERB) within the previous 60 months.

NOTE: Persons currently enrolled in full-time academic studies are not eligible for consideration. Those who qualify to establish an Employment Insurance (EI) claim must do so prior to being considered for JCP participation.


Remuneration:

$688 (gross) per week paid biweekly by the Province of Ontario (average hourly rate: $21.50 based on 4 days/32 hours).
