Who doesn’t love festivals? The music, the food, the celebrations… but sometimes that can be a little strenuous on the wallet. Are there any events to attend that are just as festive but also FREE of charge? The answer is yes! Here are three fun and festive events to check out this month without having to break the bank!

Almonte CeltfestGemmill Park, Almonte, July 6 – 8

Under an hour outside of Ottawa is a FREE festival that music lovers of all kinds won’t want to miss! Tap into Celtic culture at the Almonte Celtfest, where you can take in all the sights and sounds from Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Friday the 6

is pub night, with five different pubs serving at venues for live Celtic music. Along with two more full days of live performances, Almonte Celtfest is offering a whole host of other exciting events such as kids’ dance lessons and face painting, as well as instrumental workshops as a part of Celtic College. And don’t forget to greet Liam the Leprechaun while you’re there! Some of his luck (and his gold) may rub off on you!

Northern LightsParliament Hill, July 10 – September 3

Prepare to be dazzled! For nearly 3 months, the Northern Lights show is lighting up the night! Every evening throughout the summer you can catch this historic light show that uses the iconic Parliament Building as a massive backdrop. This annual spectacle displays the rich history of our beloved country, complete with animated projections, skylights, and a synchronized soundtrack. The event happens at 10:00pm in July, 9:30pm in August, and 9:00pm in September. So sit back and take in the show, all while knowing your wallet remains full!
