The Irish Society of the National Capital Region (ISNCR) is pleased to announce that this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade will honour the 200th birthday of Thomas D’Arcy McGee, one of Canada’s Founding Fathers of Confederation. In collaboration with the Bytown Museum and Beechwood National Cemetery, ISNCR will pay tribute to McGee’s enduring legacy with a modern service of his historic 1868 funeral procession.

As part of this commemoration, the Bytown Museum will display McGee’s death mask on a casket, a solemn tribute to one of Canada’s most influential Irish Canadians, who gave his life for the creation of this country. The Bytown Museum will open its doors to the public after the parade is complete for those wishing to see the mask in person. Note the Museum has a small admission. ISNCR invites the public to join the parade route, waving Irish and Canadian flags in celebration of this significant occasion.

The parade will depart from Ottawa City Hall, 115 Laurier Avenue West, on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 AM.
